Presenting our second print issue of Base - Cast magazine “Shifting Worlds” with cover story “New Terrain” featuring Holly Magson. In this edition, we shine a spotlight on the works of local and international photographers Todd Clare, George Byrne, Chris Ireland and Minh T, as well as explore the mindful design philosophies of Atelier Shhorn and Milly Dent. “Shifting Worlds” showcases the evolution of exclusive editorials conceptualised, produced and presented by our creative community.

The juxtaposition of the strong urban landscape with the surreal beauty of draping lace and rich colour is captured softly behind the lens. These two opposing factors inspired me to find bold pieces that accentuate the natural beauty of our models in a somewhat dull environment, where when placed together all factors are brought to life. A reminder that beauty can rise from the most unexpected of places if we dare to envision it.

Atelier Shhorn - The Art of Synergy

Interdisciplinary designer Sean Tran draws upon his Architectural background to apply a fresh perspective and considered approach to the world of Fashion. Building strong foundations on the core values of mindful construction, honouring the natural state of materials, and meticulous hand crafted details, Atelier Shhorn revels in the intimate and grounding process of design and creation.

Todd Clare - Mindscapes

Photographer Todd Clare shares his experience on shifting perspectives and exploring the relationship between internal and external landscapes.

“I’m really drawn to abstract expressionism and the way the artist explores the marks and gestures on the canvas. When you look at the landscape, these marks and gestures are painted all over it, created by Mother Nature. So I like to observe those landscapes and frame-up areas that catch my eye”.

Milly Dent - The Nature of Form and Function

Sydney ceramic artist Milly Dent explores the poetic connection between the use of natural clay as a medium to interpret and pay hommage to shapes, textures and patterns found in the natural world. 

“As soon as I first touched clay I had an innate desire to work with the material, and craft something with my hands. It’s malleable, tangible, soft, squishy nature makes it super exciting to develop something from nothing”.
